The adjustable strap and rear pocket are useful on a smaller bag. The main limitations are the open top and a price close to the larger 29.
What works
- Clémence is supple from the start, so the body bends against your hip without needing to soften first.
- A phone, wallet, sunglasses, keys, and a small pouch fit more readily than in the 16. Bulky cases reduce the room left for other things.
- Adjustable strap. The TPM 16 has a fixed strap that can't be shortened or lengthened. The 23's canvas strap slides to fit petite and tall wearers, and lets you switch between shoulder and crossbody.
- Back pocket. A full-size slip pocket on the back fits your phone or transit card without unsnapping the main compartment. The TPM 16 has no back pocket at all.
- The pebbled surface makes small marks less conspicuous than on smooth leather. Protect it from water and dye transfer.
- It is sold online without a boutique offer, subject to stock and regional purchase limits.
What doesn't
- Price-to-size ratio. At $4,275, it costs only $150 less than the PM 29, which holds significantly more. The smaller size doesn't translate to a meaningful discount.
- The wide woven strap looks casual and remains visible across your outfit. If you want a slim leather strap for evenings, compare another bag before buying an aftermarket replacement.
- Open top isn't secure. The snap closure leaves the bag partially open, and most owners skip snapping it entirely. Not ideal for crowded bars, concerts, or public transit where you'd want things locked down.
- Strap buckle can slip. The adjustment buckle on the canvas strap loosens gradually with wear. Some owners find themselves re-adjusting it throughout the day.
- Clémence slouch. The same soft leather that makes it durable also means it loses its shape over time. After a few months, it won't look as crisp as it did new. Stuffing it for storage helps, but slouch is inevitable.
- Gets heavy when packed out. The bag itself weighs ~450g, and a full daily load pushes it past a kilo. The crossbody strap concentrates weight on one shoulder, which some owners notice after long days.

I would choose the 23 for a phone, wallet, sunglasses, and small pouch, especially if the 29 feels too tall against your hip. If you also carry a tablet or bottle, spend the extra $150 on the 29. For either size, the open top is a stronger reason to look elsewhere than the price difference.
How to Wear It
The wide canvas strap and soft leather suit casual clothes. Adjust the strap with the coat or jacket you expect to wear; a comfortable length over a T-shirt can sit too high over winter layers.
Crossbody (default)
Most owners wear the Evelyne 23 crossbody with the strap adjusted to hip level. The squarer proportions sit close to the body without swinging. This is the bag's natural position.
H facing in or out?
The perforated H is technically the back of the bag (originally designed for ventilation in the equestrian version). Wearing the H facing out is the more common choice and shows the logo. Wearing it facing in creates a cleaner, more understated look — some owners prefer this for the simpler leather panel.
Shoulder carry
Shorten the strap to carry on one shoulder. Works best on the 23 since it's compact enough not to bounce around. The 29 tends to swing more in this position.
Upgrading the strap
The removable strap can be replaced, but check the length, clip size, and width before buying an alternative. A narrower leather strap changes the appearance and may concentrate the weight on a smaller area of your shoulder.
