Brand History
Senreve was founded in 2016 by CEO Coral Chung and Creative Director Wendy Wen. The two met while studying at Harvard Business School and bonded over a shared frustration with the limitations of traditional handbags. As working women themselves, they sought to design luxury bags that were beautiful, versatile, and functional for modern lifestyles.
After graduating from Harvard, Coral and Wendy continued developing their idea for Senreve and launched the brand in late 2016. They envisioned chic, high-quality bags designed for women like themselves - professionals who moved seamlessly between work, home, and social activities. The name 'Senreve' was created as a play on the word 'reverie' to evoke the state of mind their bags would help women achieve.
Senreve's signature design feature is the convertible backpack/tote strap system. Coral and Wendy were inspired by their own habit of manually converting their bags from backpacks to handbags. They worked closely with manufacturers to engineer an innovative strap design that smoothly transitions each style between multiple wearing options.
The convertible strap system took 18 months to perfect. The straps are made of 100% Italian leather, chosen for its pliability and durability through extensive testing. Custom aluminum hardware was developed to enable the smooth transition between backpack and shoulder or crossbody styles.
Senreve's headquarters in San Francisco houses the design studio where Coral and Wendy sketch new collections inspired by their global travels. The open office space and view of the Bay Bridge fuel the team's creativity.
Senreve earned quick success after launch and has been spotted on celebrities like Anne Hathaway and Meghan Markle. The brand's minimalist-chic aesthetic and versatility resonated widely, especially working women and frequent travelers.
Senreve continues innovating with new styles like belt bags, clutches, and laptop bags with the signature convertible strap system. Core design elements like pebbled Italian leather, minimalist silhouettes, and rose gold hardware make each collection distinctly Senreve.
Recent collections draw inspiration from Mexico's vibrant colors, Morocco's geometric patterns, and Italy's romantic essence translated into textures and hues. Specific influences often become limited-edition collection names like Granada, Marrakech, and Amalfi.
In 2021, Senreve expanded internationally with launches in Europe and Asia. Their cult following continues to grow globally, especially among working women inspired by the founders' vision.
Senreve utilizes sustainable materials like vegetable-tanned leather from environmentally responsible tanneries. They also partner with One Tree Planted to plant a tree for every order and commission artisans in local communities for limited-edition collections.
Senreve has collaborated on special collections with brands like La Ligne and Alice + Olivia. Their most exclusive offering is the customizable Capsule Collection, which grants access to rare, one-of-a-kind materials and personalized monogramming.
As trends moved toward smaller bags, Senreve introduced micro sizes but retained functionality with removable straps and pockets. Customer feedback also led to more neutral, timeless colors suitable for work in recent collections.
Key milestones include winning the Accessories Council Design Excellence Award in 2018 and getting named Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies list in 2022. Senreve bags have also been seen on celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Margot Robbie, and Alexandra Daddario.
Looking ahead, Senreve plans more wearable tech integrations for features like phone charging and GPS tracking to maintain relevance. But the core convertible strap system and versatile functionality remain the brand's foundation as it continues revolutionizing women's bags globally.
