Some pieces quietly disappear over time. This Spring Summer ‘21 Balenciaga Le Cagole XS is one of them. Finished in a rich “Red Flamme” croc-embossed leather with aged brass hardware, this is a discontinued colorway that is no longer available through Balenciaga. While the Le Cagole remains one of the house’s signature bags, this particular combination of color and finish has become increasingly difficult to find. This bag has only been worn 3 times and has no imperfections, scuffs, or markings. It has been carefully stored ever since and remains in exceptional, near-mint condition. One detail collectors may appreciate is that this bag comes from the era when Balenciaga still included both the matching removable coin purse and mirror with the Le Cagole. Today, those accessories are no longer always included together, making earlier releases like this especially appealing. Several years ago I brought this bag into a Balenciaga boutique inside Bloomingdale’s in New York. One of the sales associates immediately commented on the colorway, mentioning how uncommon it was and noting that it was no longer being produced. She also pointed out that it came from the period when both the mirror and coin purse were included as standard accessories.
