It was later reworked by Karl Lagerfeld in 1983, who replaced the original Mademoiselle-style lock with the double CC turnlock that's now instantly associated with the brand — creating what became known as the Classic Flap, widely considered the most iconic handbag design in the world. This piece is a vintage example in black lambskin, the colour and material combination most closely tied to the bag's legacy, and the format that's remained consistent since Lagerfeld's original reworking. It comes with its original retailer-stamped booklet, providing a genuinely complete provenance trail for a bag of this vintage. It's worth mentioning that Chanel has raised the price of the Classic Flap multiple times over the past ten years, with the medium lambskin version now retailing above £8,000 brand new. Vintage examples that retain full documentation — authentication cards and the original purchase booklet — are becoming increasingly desirable among collectors who prioritise both traceability and the craftsmanship of earlier production runs. Black medium bags with gold hardware continue to be among the easiest pieces to resell across the entire luxury market. Condition: Good, with age-appropriate wear throughout. Given how old the piece is, the lambskin has held onto much of its original softness, and the overall structure remains very good. The quilted exterior shows only very light signs of use, with no visible marks, tears, or structural issues. Corners, edges, and the base are all in good condition, showing no noticeable wear. There are two very faint scratches on the rear exterior slip pocket, visible only on close inspection. The lambskin has stayed supple, and the quilting has kept its shape well. Gold-tone hardware, including the CC turnlock and chain, is in very good condition throughout, with no significant tarnishing or finish loss. The interior leather flap has some indentation on the left side from the hardware pressing in over time, with a lighter indentation on the right, both shown in the accompanying photos. Interior leather shows light creasing consistent with age and regular use. The red grosgrain lining shows very light wear typical of a vintage piece. Comes with two original Chanel dust bags (one felt, one cotton), original authentication cards, and the original Chanel purchase booklet.
