The Baguette, designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi in 1997, is often credited as fashion's original It Bag, taking its name from the way it's tucked under the arm like a French loaf, and it fundamentally shifted expectations around what a designer bag could look like. The Mamma expanded on that idea, holding onto the same FF buckle clasp and single-strap design but in a larger, shoulder-friendly shape that became widely popular through the early 2000s. Among the materials used across the original Baguette line, suede has become the hardest to track down — more delicate and season-dependent than canvas or leather, it was always produced in more limited runs, and surviving pieces in solid condition are increasingly scarce. This hot pink suede example is especially rare, having been a limited colourway even upon release, and now harder still to find in its original state. Vintage Baguettes have appreciated significantly in value over recent years — by as much as 75 to 100 percent — and within collector circles, suede pieces in standout shades like this one tend to command a premium over comparable leather versions. Condition: Good, showing the wear typical of an older suede piece. The hot pink suede body is generally in good shape, though there's some creasing and softening at the corners from extended storage — a normal characteristic for vintage suede that doesn't take away much from its overall appearance. Some light grey discolouration appears across sections of the suede, subtle enough not to stand out immediately but worth noting for full transparency. The base and reverse are in good condition, with nothing in the way of damage or heavy wear. Leather components, including the strap and the backing behind the FF buckle, show mild creasing from storage along with general age-appropriate wear, with no visible scratching. Gold-tone hardware is generally in good shape with no obvious scratches, though the FF buckle has taken on a natural aged patina consistent with its age. The red satin interior remains in good condition, with very little sign of use. The serial number tag has worn away and is no longer legible, which is typical for a bag from this period. Includes an EBV London dust bag.
