I am selling a vintage 1998 Hermes Birkin 35 in gold colour (which is a dark tan) with gold plated hardware (GHW). I bought it in Tokyo which is known for selling excellent quality authentic vintage Hermes. This bag is made of Gulliver leather which was discontinued by Hermes in 1999 and then relaunched in 2005 as Swift leather. Both names pay tribute to Jonathan Swift, author of Gulliver’s Travels. Gulliver/Swift leather is known for its smooth and fine-grain texture but is prone to scratches. It has a semi-matte appearance and soft, natural grainy texture. It has excellent light reflecting properties which accounts for its sheen. It is made of Nubuck - a type do leather which has been buffed to reduce the grainy texture. It is soft with exceptional durability and it holds its shape well. I am a collector of both vintage and new Hermes bags for personal use. I am selling this beauty because I finally got offered a new Birkin 35 gold with GHW from my local Hermes store after years of being on the wish list. I like to use all my bags and having two of the same doesn’t make any sense to me. I just recently got this bag (of course!) and have used it 4 times. It is in excellent vintage condition - please see photos for signs of wear like on the bags corners. Considering it is over 25 years old the interior is in excellent condition and the exterior only shows the classic signs of wear on the edges and some scratches on the hardware. This bag has never been cleaned by an external company so it can definitely be sent to the Hermes spa for a touch up if one so desires. I was going to send this bag as I do with all my vintage buys but I haven’t had it long enough to get around to it! The bag comes with a full set lock/key charm and the original dust bag. I also have a brand new box to send it in. I took close ups of the stitching so you can see the stitching has been done by hand and not a machine, as per all authentic Hermes bags.
