When Hermes' own Jean-Louis Dumas sat down next to Jane Birkin on a flight, he had no idea he was about to create history. When Jane Birkin discussed her need for a sizeable (yet chic) weekender, Dumas immediately got to work designing the perfect bag for her needs. In 1984, we were introduced to the Birkin, which would quickly become the most coveted bag in history, thanks (in part) to the 48 hours it takes to hand-assemble this exquisite piece, as well as the extensive wait list you'll need to join to purchase one from stores. This authentic Fauve brown Birkin is rendered in Barenia Faubourg leather and accented with gold-tone hardware. Barenia is a very delicate leather and prone to scratching. It is a soft leather, and bags made with this leather will eventually lose shape and have a buttery smooth, matte finish. Includes lock, two keys and clochette.
