Hermès Kelly 28 Retourné Diamond Himalaya Matte Niloticus Crocodile 18K White Gold Diamond Hardware The Diamond Himalaya sits at the apex of the Hermès hierarchy, and of luxury collecting itself. The skin is Matte Niloticus Crocodile in the Himalaya gradient, smoky grey at the edges dissolving to pearlescent white at the center, named for the snow line of the mountains and achievable only on flawless skins, since the pale center hides nothing. The dyeing runs light-to-dark in reverse of convention, and a single uneven scale ruins the panel. What separates the Diamond iteration is the metal: touret, plaque, and cadena in solid 18K white gold, hand-set with approximately 229 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling more than 9 carats, the padlock alone carrying roughly 40 stones at 1.64 carats. This is the house's jewelry atelier working on its most exclusive bag, and this 2021 example carries it on the Retourné construction, the soft-edged build, where nearly all Diamond Himalayas surface in Sellier, an outlier within a production believed to run one or two pieces per year worldwide. Condition: 1 – Pristine Stamp: Z (2021) Color: Himalaya Leather: Matte Niloticus Crocodile Hardware: 18K White Gold with Diamonds (9+ ct) Includes: Full set Dimensions: 28 × 22 × 10 cm | 11" W × 8.5" H × 4" D Collector's Insight: The standard Himalaya is already the quota bag reserved for the house's top clients; the Diamond version is offered, never requested, to a client list shorter than the production run of most limited editions. The Retourné construction makes this example rarer still: the soft build appears so seldom in the Diamond program that most collectors have never handled one, and it changes the bag's presence entirely, relaxed where the Sellier stands at attention. Every element, skin grade, white gold work, stone setting, passes through the narrowest gates the maison operates. Resale Insight: Diamond Himalayas set the reference prices for the entire handbag category, with auction appearances rare enough that each becomes news, and value anchored by the intrinsic worth of the gold and diamonds beneath the scarcity. Demand comes from the small global pool of collectors for whom the standard Himalaya was the previous ceiling, and supply is structurally fixed by a production measured in single pieces. A pristine full-set example is the strongest form the category ever reaches the market in.
