Made in 1989, this Papillon 26 represents Louis Vuitton at the height of its traditional French manufacturing, before the house shifted its materials and construction methods in the mid-2000s. It remains one of the label's most iconic and enduring shapes. A key marker of its age is the leather used throughout the handles and trim, noticeably darker and more heavily treated than the light Vachetta found on models made after 2004, which ages into its patina slowly. Inside, the bag is finished with sturdy cross-grain leather — a hallmark of older production runs that was later phased out in favour of lighter microfibre and textile linings. Condition: Good, with wear typical of a genuinely aged piece. The monogram canvas is clean, with no marks or noticeable wear. Light indentation marks appear on the base, consistent with storage over the years. The leather trim has developed a rich honey patina and shows some general signs of age. Light cracking and surface peeling can be seen on the straps near the hardware connection points. The gold-tone zip hardware has lost a fair amount of its finish in certain spots — functionally the zip works fine, though the colour wear is visible.
