When Nicolas Ghesquière launched the motorcycle bag for Balenciaga in 2001, it quickly became one of the most defining designs in contemporary fashion. Distressed lambskin, aged brass fittings, and whipstitched handle detailing gave the collection an entirely new fashion identity. Referred to as "The First," this is the smallest and most compact version in the range, still unmistakably Balenciaga despite its size. Throughout the mid-2000s, the style became almost impossible to avoid, worn by figures like Kate Moss and Nicole Richie, and seen constantly across Paris fashion week. The rose colour remains one of the most sought-after shades in the collection, softening the design's appearance without dulling its edge. It's worth mentioning that pieces from Balenciaga's Ghesquière period (2001–2012) are now regarded as a distinct area of collector interest. Bags from this era are recognisable by their particular lambskin finish and aged brass hardware, both of which set them apart from newer releases. "The First" remains one of the more versatile, wearable shapes from the collection and continues to see steady activity on the resale market. Condition: Good/Fair, and buyers should look closely through all photos before purchasing, as this bag shows clear signs of age. The lambskin has taken on a noticeable patina and discolouration in keeping with a genuinely well-worn piece from this period. The front of the bag shows pronounced discolouration and yellowing throughout, the most significant area of wear and clearly visible in the photos provided. There's a green tinge to the leather on the top left section, a common trait of aged lambskin. Both whipstitched handles have darkened considerably, appearing noticeably deeper in tone than the rest of the bag. There are no rips, tears, or structural issues with the leather, and no visible surface scuffing. The aged brass hardware remains in good shape throughout. Side base buckle hardware shows some light wear consistent with regular use. Interior is in good overall condition, with mild signs of use.
