Balenciaga 2001 Le Dix Flat Brass First in Caramel Chèvre Leather Here is a chance to own a rare and exciting piece of Balenciaga's Motorcycle bag history! Offered is one of the earliest Balenciaga motorcycle bags produced by Nicolas Ghesquière, released in 2001, the Le Dix First is made of the silkiest aniline leather which is very soft with a wrinkled/silky appearance that seems misleadingly delicate yet lasts for decades. This particular one is unique in its very deep wrinkles across the front, with tighter fainter distressing sides bottom and back. The features that show this is one of the rarest first season bags are the Le Dix tag inside the bag (which was one-sided and did not include style/serial numbers) and the lack of zipper stops on the front outer pocket. The second season on all releases had obvious zipper stops on both zippers. Le Dix Firsts were made with flat brass hardware and came with a longer (24 inch) shoulder strap. Its rectangular shape is approximately 13 inches across, 8 inches high and 3 inches deep. The first season bags did not come with mirrors. The last of the photos are of Kate Moss carrying her black 2001 Flat Brass First. Hers was one of the original 25 gifted by Nicolas Ghesquiere to the models who admired them. The bag offered here is in excellent condition with minimal wear. It’s hard to believe it is decades old. The inside is clean with no rips, holes, snags or stains. The handles are smooth and dry and the laces are in good shape with only minimal evidence of wear. The tubing within the handles, like the earliest Le Dix bags (F/W 01 and S/S 2002) ends shy of their base, which leaves about 1/4” of flexible leather. I see some slight fraying on the leather at the base of the handles where it enfolds the knotted ends of the lacings. Both tassels have been replaced and are not the original. It will ship with an appropriate sized Balenciaga dust bag, and the Jay Strongwater Butterfly charm shown in photos.
