1983 Archive: Vintage Louis Vuitton Keepall 55 Monogram (Full Set) This is a proper piece of history from the early eighties. Crafted in April 1983 with the date code 834 and SD factory stamp, this bag comes from the rare window when Louis Vuitton first started using internal coding. For anyone collecting archive pieces, that makes it a significant find. Size and travel The 55 is the sweet spot for travel. It is the largest size you can usually carry onto a plane (roughly 55 x 30 x 25 cm). It holds everything you need for a long weekend but still fits into an overhead bin without any drama. Condition and vintage character For a 40-year-old bag, it’s in great shape. It has plenty of soul. The vachetta leather has aged into a deep, rich honey patina. You will see some natural watermarks and darkening on the straps and handles. It looks authentic and lived-in, exactly how you want vintage leather to look. As for the monogram canvas, it is remarkably well-preserved, thick, and tough. You will notice some green oxidation (verdigris) on the brass rivets. This is a hallmark of genuine LV from this era. I have kept it as-is to preserve the original state, but it’s easy to polish off if you prefer the brass to be bright. The Full Set It is rare to find a bag this old that hasn't lost its accessories. This one comes with the original padlock and key (number 222), the leather luggage tag, and the poignet (the strap that keeps the handles together).
