Hermès San Francisco is the two-floor boutique at 125 Grant Avenue, just off Union Square. It is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and closed Sunday. You can walk in without an appointment, although booking helps when you want time for a planned visit. Check the official listing before you go, especially near a holiday.
The Grant Avenue store is separate from Hermès at San Francisco International Airport and from the Palo Alto boutique. This guide covers the downtown location, how to reach it, what the store says it carries, and what shoppers can reasonably expect when asking about bags.

The entrance to look for is the Grant Avenue storefront at number 125, near Maiden Lane. The city’s Union Square guide shows this façade. There is no established separate customer entrance on Maiden Lane.
The Hermès store page is the place to confirm a temporary closure or changed hours. Its regular schedule does not establish holiday hours.
Walk-ins and appointments
Hermès says an appointment is not required at Grant Avenue. You can also use its appointment page to request a private visit. Booking is useful if you want to set aside time, but it does not promise a particular item, a product hold, immediate entry, or access to a Birkin or Kelly.
If you need a repair consultation, an accessible route through the two-floor store, or a specific service, call +1 415-391-7200 first. The current scope and booking rules for those services are not published in the store listing. For ordinary browsing, bring a clear idea of the category you want and ask what is available that day.
Getting to 125 Grant Avenue
BART and Muni
Both Montgomery Street and Powell Street BART stations put you in the downtown area. Powell serves Union Square; Montgomery is another practical approach from Market Street. The Union Square/Market Street station at 200 Geary Street serves the T Third and connects underground to Powell. If you need an elevator, check the operators’ current alerts before choosing a route.
Parking near the store
The Union Square Garage is at 333 Post Street. The Sutter–Stockton Garage is at 444 Stockton Street and operates around the clock. Both are public garages, with rates and entry rules that can change; check the linked garage pages before driving. Sutter–Stockton lists its own valet service. That is a garage service, not a boutique valet.
No dedicated Hermès parking or validation is established for Grant Avenue. If step-free access or an interior elevator matters to your visit, phone the boutique before traveling; the historical two-floor layout alone does not confirm its current accessible route.
What the boutique carries and how it looks
The Hermès listing names apparel, handbags, scarves, home goods, fragrances and shoes, plus beauty and Apple products. That tells you which categories the boutique carries, but a particular bag, shoe size or scarf print may be unavailable on the day you visit. Ask about the item you want.
This building has changed over time. SFGATE reported that Hermès moved here from Stockton Street in 2003, opening a 4,400-square-foot store in a former Saks Fifth Avenue building. A 2019 reopening account described a second floor and a roughly 9,000-square-foot expanded boutique, with an oak staircase by RDAI. Those two area figures refer to different stages of the same address.
At the 2019 reopening, leather and silk were downstairs; shoes, jewelry, watches and home objects were upstairs. Reports from that year also described made-to-measure and repair areas. Call before traveling for either service because today’s arrangements may differ. The special Kelly bags displayed for the reopening were opening-day merchandise, not a standing assortment.
Birkin, Kelly and other bags
Hermès does not publish a San Francisco purchase-history amount, spending ratio, required category mix or promised wait time for a Birkin or Kelly. Shoppers in the San Francisco discussion thread describe different spending and offer experiences. Their accounts do not establish an amount you must spend.
Tell the associate which bag, size and colors you want. Booking an appointment does not promise an offer. Spending on things you do not want to reach a number quoted online gives you no guarantee either. A wishlist records your interest; it is not a numbered queue with a delivery date.
Some San Francisco shoppers have found Picotin, Garden Party and Mini Evelyne bags without a large local purchase history. Your preferred size or color may still be unavailable when you visit, so ask what the boutique has that day.
Hermès also does not explain publicly whether online purchases, purchases at other boutiques or a change of associate affect San Francisco offers. Ask your associate how the store handles your circumstances.
A practical first visit
Start with the address and current hours. If you are arriving from outside the city, decide whether BART or a public garage is simpler for your day. Book if you want a planned conversation, or walk in if you are exploring. A first visit can be useful even when a desired bag is not available: you can see the current range, learn whether a size works for you, and make a specific request.
There is no published San Francisco dress code. Wear what is comfortable for shopping. If you are bringing an item for repair, need accessible entry, or want a particular department, call ahead; those questions are more useful than guessing which day or outfit might improve a bag outcome.
For bags that appear on Hermès’s U.S. website, BagUSeek’s free online bag restock alerts can help you watch online inventory alongside a boutique visit. They do not secure a store appointment or a Birkin or Kelly offer.
Grant Avenue, Palo Alto and SFO are different stores
If you are shopping in downtown San Francisco, use 125 Grant Avenue. For a Peninsula or South Bay trip, Palo Alto at 660 Stanford Shopping Center, Suite 317B, may save the drive into the city. Both boutiques list Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m., and Sunday closed.
The SFO airport store is a separate stop for travelers, with phone +1 650-647-1387 and daily hours of 7:45 a.m. to midnight. Check which terminal area you can reach and what the store carries before planning around it. Airport location alone does not make a purchase duty-free.
There is no reliable basis for ranking these stores by Birkin or Kelly offer chances. Pick the one you can reach and discuss the item you want with its staff.
Sales tax and visitors
The California tax agency’s table effective July 1, 2026 lists San Francisco at 8.625%. Check the agency’s address lookup if an exact transaction calculation matters; rates can change. A visiting shopper should not assume a VAT-style tourist refund.
The agency’s delivery guidance explains that California tax treatment can differ when a retailer ships a purchase directly outside the state, while taking possession in California usually changes that result. Ask the store about its procedures and get tax advice for a consequential purchase; a visitor’s residence alone does not establish an exemption.
