The Hardy Story

The Hardy began as a special order for a Goyard customer who wanted a bag for her cat. The original larger GM was designed as a pet carrier.

Goyard's artisans created a structured carrier with ventilation holes punched in an elegant pattern spelling "Goyard Paris" — functional for airflow yet unmistakably branded. The bag was named after the cat it was designed for: Hardy.

From Pet Carrier to Everyday Tote

• Original special order: The original Hardy GM is created as a bespoke pet carrier for a special client. It's the larger of what would eventually become two sizes.
• Handbag version: Goyard introduces the Hardy PM as a smaller handbag version, recognizing demand from customers who loved the design but didn't need a pet carrier.
• Present Day: The GM has been discontinued, making the PM the only Hardy available at retail. The bag is now marketed purely as a women's tote, though its pet-carrier heritage lives on in the distinctive perforated panels.

The discontinued Hardy GM still appears on resale. Our October 6, 2026 sample included one live GM listing at The RealReal asking $1,595; one listing cannot establish a typical price or a rarity premium.

Design & Construction

The Hardy PM is built on Goyard's signature Goyardine canvas — the hand-painted, coated cotton-linen-hemp blend that has been the house's hallmark since 1892. Unlike the floppy St. Louis tote, the Hardy maintains a structured, rectangular silhouette that holds its shape whether empty or full.

The interior is lined with a neutral canvas fabric and features a single open compartment — no built-in pockets or dividers. The leather trim comes in two options for black canvas: all black or natural tan (black/tan). All other canvas colors pair exclusively with natural tan leather.

Size & Capacity

The Goyard Hardy is available in only one size today — the PM. Despite "PM" suggesting a smaller variant exists, the larger GM has been discontinued. The Hardy PM is a medium-large tote, comparable in capacity to a Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM or the Goyard Artois MM.

Weight: The Hardy PM weighs 910 g (about 2 lbs) empty, compared with 280 g for the plain St. Louis PM. That difference matters before you add a laptop or water bottle.

What Fits Inside

Tip: Since the Hardy has no internal pockets, many owners use a felt bag organizer to create compartments and prevent the "everything sinks to the bottom" problem. The structured base helps the bag maintain its shape, but an organizer adds practical utility.

Colors Available

The Hardy PM comes in 11 standard Goyardine colors. Black is offered with black or tan trim; the remaining colors are listed below. Color stock varies by boutique.

Color availability: The color range does not mean every boutique has every color in stock. White requires extra care because dark denim and other fabrics can transfer dye onto it.

The natural tan leather trim will develop a warm honey patina over time with use and exposure to sunlight — this is expected and considered part of the bag's character.

Pricing Guide

Retail Prices (Boutique)

Goyard’s US Hardy PM page has an inquiry button instead of a price, so a new Hardy is bought through a boutique, in person or by phone. U.S. buyers reported paying about $2,800–$3,000 for a classic-color PM in late 2025. Goyard raised prices in 2026 (the Saint Louis PM went from $1,710 to $1,890), so expect the boutique quote to be higher. See the Goyard price list for other models.

Goyard sells selected bags online, while a new Hardy purchase goes through a boutique or distance sale. For resale, the prices below give you a dollar budget before tax and shipping.

Resale Market Prices

On October 6, 2026, 15 live Hardy PM listings at Fashionphile, Rebag, and The RealReal had a median asking price of $1,995. Their dollar asking prices ranged from $1,195 to $3,340, and the listings were last seen between July 31 and October 5, 2026. The GM sample contained just one listing at The RealReal, asking $1,595.

Hardy PM vs St. Louis PM/GM

The St. Louis is Goyard's iconic open-top tote — lightweight, floppy, and effortlessly casual. The Hardy is its structured, secure opposite:

Hardy PM vs Artois MM

The Artois is Goyard's other zip-top tote — the Hardy's closest sibling in the lineup:

The verdict: The Artois MM gives you a wider bag, a longer 25 cm handle drop, and an inside pocket at a lower empty weight. The Hardy’s perforated sides and boxier proportions are the reasons to choose it.

Hardy PM vs Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM

The verdict: Hardy offers more security and exclusivity. Neverfull offers more capacity, easier access, and wider availability. Hardy is the choice for those who value understated luxury and security; Neverfull for those who want a recognized classic with grab-and-go convenience.

Retail (New)

For a new Hardy PM, use a Goyard boutique or request a distance sale by phone or email. Goyard’s online shop carries selected other models; the Hardy’s US page currently offers an inquiry.

Resale (Pre-Owned)

If you can't visit a boutique or want to find the discontinued GM, the secondary market is active:

• Luxury Resellers: Fashionphile, The RealReal, Rebag, and Vestiaire Collective regularly list Hardy bags. Authentication included.
• Consignment Shops: High-end consignment stores in major cities often carry Goyard. Call ahead to check inventory.

Care & Maintenance

Goyard advises keeping the Hardy away from water, rough surfaces, grease, and heat. Clean the canvas and leather gently and store the bag with its shape supported.
