The City bag was first designed for Balenciaga's Spring/Summer 2001 show, internally nicknamed the "Motorcycle" before it became known by its now-famous name. Despite a lukewarm initial reaction internally, the bag quickly won over the fashion industry, worn early on by figures like Kate Moss, Mary-Kate Olsen, and Sienna Miller — appearances that helped cement its place as one of the defining It-bags of its generation, a reputation that has stuck ever since. Built from distressed lambskin and released in a rotating cast of standout seasonal shades, the bag became known for its relaxed shape, braided handles, buckle detailing, and understated branding. In Spring/Summer 2007, Balenciaga introduced a new hardware option known as "Giant," trading the original delicate silver studs for large, aged brass hardware, giving the bag a heavier, more rock-influenced edge. Condition: Good, with wear typical of a piece that's been genuinely loved. The lambskin exterior holds up well overall, though there's some surface wear and light cracking near the strap attachment points, consistent with age. Some leather lifting and surface wear is present near the lower right stud panel, clearly shown in the listing photos. The Giant brass hardware and studs show mild surface wear in line with the bag's age. The braided handles have light creasing, with some darkening visible underneath where they meet the body, a natural sign of handling over time. Side buckle straps and the zip pull tassels remain in good shape, with no visible damage. The front zip shows light use but operates smoothly. Interior is in very good condition, with minimal to no wear. Comes with a detachable shoulder strap.
